The Advanced Car recognizes the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica for bringing mainstream plug-in electric hybrid fuel efficiency and extended the electric-only range to the minivan segment. This week as a preamble to the New York International Auto Show, Chrysler showcases a backup camera option utilizing an expanded elevated 360-degree Surround View Camera. In effect, Chrysler promotes advanced car safety through the segments most advanced, select view 4-way color backup camera.

Here’s how it works

With multiple exterior camera lenses (a bit larger than a cell phone lens) mounted to the front, rear, and sides of 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, when accessed via a center stack dash-mounted color static touch-screen monitor, the driver is afforded 4 view modes. While certainly not the first to utilize surround-cam technology in the auto industry, Chrysler brings expanded surrounding area view to the family minivan. Effectively eliminating the questions: Where are the kids, are they all in, did one of them leave a bicycle or a skateboard in the driveway? Now you know.

The award-winning 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan

The award-winning 2017 Chrysler minivan is the first in the maker’s North America lineup to feature 4-way-surround vision. With federal safety laws mandating standardly equipped backup cameras on all vehicles manufactured after the model year 2015, The Advanced Car believes that all automakers should follow Chrysler’s lead in mainstreaming multiple-view safety imaging technology.  Once reserved for luxury motor homes, and premium, luxury car and light truck offerings, we’re seeing this technology trickle down as a standard feature in many of today’s premium import sedan offerings. We like it!

The Advanced Car recently experienced advanced surround-area viewing in 2017 Volvo XC90, a viable alternative for our readers not gravitating toward the minivan realm.

Take a moment to watch Chrysler’s demonstration of Surround Vision technology, makes safety sense. I like the shared fact that the driver can now view all entry doors. Are they open or closed?
